Double Contour Profile View Photos

If you place a breast implant in the submuscular position behind a droopy breast, the radius of curvature of the implant is often different from the radius of curvature of the breast tissue.  The muscle separates these two curves from each other, producing a breast profile similar to a double dipped ice cream cone.  The plastic surgery term for this condition is double contour profile.  It can be corrected by moving the implant to a position in front of the muscle or by lifting the breast gland tissue in front of the implant.  The dissadvantage of doing the breast lift is the visible scar produced on the front of the breast.  The dissadvantages of moving the implant to a position in front of the muscle are an increased risk of capsule contracture and loss of muscle support for the implant, leading to increased breast droop.

The other form of double contour deformity occurs when an implant is placed behind the muscle and over time the breast falls in front of the implant.  This produces a "roller coaster" breast profile, the plastic surgery term for this condition is termed double contour deformity above the nipple.
