Capsule Contracture
The implant pocket behind the breast is lined by scar tissue, sometimes the scar tissue contracts, shrinking the size of the implant pocket. As the scar tissue presses ever more tightly against the implant, the implant assumes the shape that has the smallest surface area per unit volume, this shape is a sphere. On it's way to becoming spherical, the implant may develop wrinkles. In cases of mild capsule contracture, the corner of a wrinkle may sometimes be felt as a "point" in the mid breast. In severe cases of capsule contracture, the breast becomes spherical, fixed in position on the chest wall, always at attention, and is abnormally firm to touch.
